Manly Minibook + Brag Book Tutorial

For Rust’s birthday, I made a little card/mini called “30 Reasons on Your Thirtieth.” Rust calls it his “manly minibook.” : ) It was thirty reasons I love him.

It is one of the simplest, easiest minibooks to make — all using one 12×12 double-sided sheet of scrapbook paper!

Here’s how to make your own simple “brag book” (which, really, you can use for ANY sort of minibook) like these:

You will need:

  • 1 12×12 double-sided sheet of patterned scrapbook paper
  • paper trimmer OR scissors + ruler
  • brads of any type (I use plain silver ones, but there are hundreds of others)
  • glue stick
  • a sharp, sharp needle
  • corner rounder (not necessary)
  • any labels, cardstock, or stickers for extra embellishments

1. Take your double-sided sheet of paper & cut three strips that are 4-inches wide x 12-inches long.

2. For TWO of the strips, fold evenly in half to make it 4×6 once folded.

3. For the third strip, cut it in half to make two 4×6 ‘pages’. One 4×6 sheet will be inserted into your minibook; the other you can use for embellishing.

4. Using the spare 4×6 sheet, add a decorative folded spine. For the brag book above, I cut a 2×4-inch square and folded it evenly around the first folded page. I used a punch to decorate the edges. I also layered gray cardstock between the first page & the decorative spine. Using your glue stick, adhere the spine plus any other embellishments.

5. If you want, round the corners for all sheets.

6. Tuck one folded page inside the other, and the one 4×6 sheet into the very middle. There should be five pages.

7. Once they are properly & neatly stacked, use your needle (I used to have a very sharp & thick “T” needle that I lost which worked perfect for this!) to punch a miniscule hole through one end of ALL the pages (see pictures above). Secure one brad. Repeat again so where both holes with the brads secure the pages and forms a mini book.

Once you get the hang of this, you can have a 5-page minibook ready to go in 15-20 minutes!

If you have a question, feel free to leave it in the comments.
